Masterclass: Fundraising and Investor Relations
Back on popular demand. The Council is offering its Masterclass – Fundraising and Investor Relations in person in Sydney. This intermediate program is developed for professionals interested in pursuing an investor relations role, or those new to an investor relations role. The masterclass will be facilitated by leading industry practitioners who will be sharing their experience and wealth of knowledge with real life examples.
Overview and learning outcomes
The fundraising and investor relations masterclass is an immersive, four module course covering how to:
- sharpen your negotiating skills
- craft the perfect pitch
- navigate private market fundraising
- stay ahead of industry trends
- excel in reporting and communications.
This year the course will also include an overview of fund design and the promotion of funds and onboarding of investors from a legal perspective
Who the course is for
This intermediate program is aimed at private capital fund managers and advisory professionals who support fundraising activity and looking to build strong investor relations skills.
Module 1: Introduction to Private Markets Fundraising
Private Markets Overview:
- Defining private markets (private equity, venture capital, private credit, real estate, infrastructure) – how each can fit into an asset allocation
- Key differences from public markets (liquidity, risk, return profiles)
- Overview of the fundraising cycle (pre-marketing, marketing, closing, post-closing)
Fundraising Landscape:
- Types of investors (institutional, high-net-worth, family offices, endowments, foundations)
- Investor motivations and expectations
- Key trends and challenges in the fundraising market
Module 2: Developing a Fundraising Strategy
Target Investor Identification:
- Developing an ideal investor profile (IIP) – what part of the market(s) do you want to target?
- Researching and identifying potential investors
- Leveraging existing networks and relationships
Crafting a Compelling Narrative:
- Developing a clear and concise value proposition
- Articulating the investment strategy and differentiation
- Creating a pitch deck and other marketing materials
Preparing for Investor Meetings:
- Anticipating investor questions and concerns
- Practicing presentations and Q&A sessions
- Developing a follow-up strategy
Module 3: Investor Relations
Building Strong Relationships:
- The importance of regular communication and transparency
- Providing timely and relevant updates on fund performance
- Managing investor expectations and concerns
Reporting and Compliance:
- Key reporting requirements (e.g., quarterly reports, annual audits)
- Complying with regulatory requirements
- Managing data and information security
Fundraising for Subsequent Funds:
- Leveraging existing investor relationships for future fundraising
- Building a track record of success
- Evolving the fundraising strategy as needed
Module 4: Regulatory Perspectives on Fund Design and Investor Onboarding
